Meet Kannan Thiruvengadam

Kannan Thiruvengadam lives in Adventerra’s hometown of East Boston, an Environmental Justice & Climate Justice community. Growing up as a farmer’s son in India, he developed a passion for sustainable agriculture and urban design. With a background in technology, climate science, permaculture, and community engagement, he has become a leader in the Climate Ready Boston movement.  We are excited that he is running for the executive committee of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Sierra Club – and we encourage you to vote for him!

In 2015, Kannan founded Eastie Farm, an amazing local resource. The organization creates green spaces that demonstrate regenerative agriculture and community-scale climate solutions, turning vacant city lots into vibrant gardens that provide fresh fruits and veggies to food-insecure neighbors. As Eastie Farm’s director, he brings neighbors together to tackle important environmental issues. We are thrilled that Kannan has helped spread Adventerra’s mission there over the past year, introducing our educational games to the community so families learn how they can protect the planet while playing fun games

His environmental leadership does not end there…

He also works to protect Boston’s largest salt marsh, as a member of Friends of Belle Isle Marsh, and on a regional Green New Deal initiative for New England as part of RENEW New England. He was an integral part in the advocacy for City of Boston’s Local Wetlands Ordinance.

He teaches in East Boston schools as well, fostering experiential learning by encouraging students to engage with the waterfront and green spaces in the neighborhood. As a co-director of JP Green School, he taught sustainable education at a passive-solar and energy-positive GreenHouse in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. The list of Kannan’s environmental activities goes on and on! We are very grateful that he has found time to help Adventerra Games become better known in Boston.
